LIMITATIONS OF COST ACCOUNTING

• cost accounting system is more complex
• it is more expensive
• lack of accuracy due to use of estimates
• not suitable for small scale units
• it serves the information needs of management only not of all stakeholders (i.e. shareholders, employees,creditors etc)
• it only brings about the cost of goods or services and not the operational results of business
• lack of uniformity: cost accounting information is not comparable because cost accounting procedures differ from organization to organization
• it is dependent upon other accounting systems such as financial accounting
